I’m so glad you decided to stop by Veggie Quest, because today we’re celebrating! Because after many years, a few setbacks, and some good old-fashioned elbow grease, I finally made it: I’m a registered dietitian (RD)!
PARTY TIME!!! 😀
Yep, Friday before last, I made it over the last hurdle between me and the RD—I passed the registration exam. Studying felt like preparing for a comprehensive final in every course in the RD curriculum all at once, and I was sweating it when I headed in for to test. But thanks to 3+ weeks of studying, a forest’s worth of flash cards (sorry, trees!), and supportive friends and family, I made it. (To learn more about my path to becoming a dietitian, click here or here.)
Woot!
Even more exciting? On Monday, I start my new job as a dietitian at one of my favorite plant-based organizations: the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Headed by Dr. Neal Barnard, the Physicians Committee does amazing work fighting chronic disease and promoting plant-based nutrition. I’m a little nervous to be starting a new chapter in my life, but thrilled to be jumping in.
So, to celebrate all the awesomeness, I’m sharing one of my favorite kinds of posts—a giveaway! Specifically, Debbie Adler, one of my favorite plant-based foodies, has agreed to send two lucky Veggie Quest readers a free copy of her new cookbook, Sweet, Savory & Free. It’s packed to the gills with scrumptious recipes, so be sure to enter the giveaway at the end of the post!
Giveaway: Sweet, Savory & Free by Debbie Adler
Do you eat a plant-based diet? Do you or a family member have food allergies or sensitivities?
And most importantly, do you love really good food?
Then you’re going to love Sweet, Savory & Free. Written by Debbie Adler, whose son has severe food allergies, it’s got page after page of delicious plant-based recipes, all free of the top 8 food allergens: peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, dairy, eggs, fish, shellfish, and soy. (Yeah, I memorized those for my RD exam. Boom! 😉 )
And when it comes to delicious recipes, Debbie knows a thing or two: She’s the founder of Sweet Debbie’s Organic Cupcakes, a successful bakery in LA making plant-based, allergy friendly treats.
However, this cookbook goes way beyond sweets. I mean, check out this amazing Falafel Bowl with Horseradish-Dill Cream Sauce:
These golden falafel, made with chickpeas and sweet potato, have a tender center with salty-savory cumin and a hint of sweetness. Perched atop tender butter lettuce studded with ripe tomatoes and crispy cucumber, then drizzled with an avocado-based horseradish dill sauce, these tasty little nuggets are to die for.
But that’s not all. Check out these other recipes I can’t wait to try:
Plus:
- Blueberry Buckwheat Waffles
- Pumpkin Swirl Cinnamon Buns
- Soft Beer Pretzels
- Ultimate Veggie Pad Thai
- Spinach and Basil Dumplings
Oh, I should also mention: Not only are these recipes allergy friendly, they’re free from added sugars and oil, too. But don’t worry—you won’t notice what’s missing. You’ll be too busy tucking in to delicious, nutritious food that everyone can enjoy.
So celebrate with me: Enter to win your free cookbook below!

I don’t have any food allergies or sensitivities, although I did once break out from eating a bunch of shellfish. Just once, though.
Lee says
Yikes, what was in that shellfish?? Either way you’ll love the cookbook if you win–I don’t have any food allergies myself, but this cookbook is so good it’s already going into rotation!
Mindy Bollinger says
I have a problem with citrus , this looks like s great book for clean eating. Would be great to check it out!
Lee says
Hi Mindy, sorry about the citrus, what a pain! You’re totally right on the cookbook, though–it’s full of YUM clean-eating recipes that just so happen to be free of major allergens.
Steph says
I have sensitivities to fake sugar. I hate that it’s in so much stuff
Lee says
That’s no fun! I confess I still have the occasional diet soda, but I know it’s not good for me. Does that make drinking it worse or better, I wonder? 😉
Katie says
I have a dairy intolerance. I figured it out by trying out eliminating it from my diet and using dairy-free replacements. I felt so much better after!!!
Lee says
Hi Katie, I’m so glad you were able to identify your intolerance and that you’re feeling better! Dairy doesn’t agree with me either; I’m with you in feeling much better avoiding it, too. Lots of fun 100% dairy-free recipes in this cookbook! 😀
Lori Zorc says
CONGRATULATIONS LEE!!! I am so happy for you. You have worked so hard and it has paid off. I wish you much success in your new career! Congrats again!
Lee says

I am excited about this recipe book. I do have some dietary issues and this would give me some variety. Thank you for offering it.
Lee says
Hi Judith, there’s tons of variety in this cookbook! I was actually getting into a rut myself, and this cookbook was a breath of fresh air.
Danielle Busentiz says
I would love a cookbook with no added recipes. DS and I both have lots of food intolerances so I’m always looking for new ideas for variety.
Danielle Busentiz says
Oops I meant no sugar added.
Lee says
Lol, definitely no-added-sugar recipes. 🙂 Lots of outside-the-box ideas in this cookbook!
Maureen says
Congratulations on the job Lee. You will use your super writing skills and passion for vegan eating to good use!
Lee says
Thanks Maureen, and thanks for being a great preceptor along the way!

I don’t have any food allergies, but my partner is sensitive to avocado (poor guy!). 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway and congrats!!
Lee says
Wow, that’s rough! Can he eat bananas? I know some people are sensitive to them both. (I’m in the other camp–I can eat avocados, but not bananas.)
tango says
Wow!! Best of luck in your new job, your gonna be awesome!! Congratulations!!!
Lee says
Thanks Tango! How’s life on your end?
