I’m a little embarrassed, because this is a Super Bowl post and I haven’t watched a football game all season.
What can I say? I’m not a football fan. Although some of the quarterbacks do look cute in those little pants. (I’m allowed to say that, because hubby played football in high school and looked mighty fine. đ )
But I digress. I actually love the Super Bowl for 2 reasonsâand neither one includes spandex:
- The commercials entertain me.
- It’s an awesome excuse to try tasty new snacks and party bites!
In that spirit, I’ve rounded up 7 delicious and secretly healthy Super Bowl snacks for your game-day get-together. All are 100% plant-based, low in or free from refined sugar and oil, and gluten free (or can be with a simple swap). They’re perfect for parties with omnivores and vegans alikeâor for nibbling in front of the TV with your honey.
What’s more, Iâve marked the recipes that comply with popular plant-based plans, like McDougall and Fuhrman, so you can hop straight to the ones that work for you.
So whether you’re a football fan or just watching for the cute pants commercials, here’s to a happy, healthy Super Bowl!
Roasted Cauliflower Bites with Vegan Nacho Cheese Sauce
I can’t wait to make these roasted cauliflower bites by Susan at FatFree Vegan Kitchen. First, they look incredibleâhello, perfectly browned florets dunked in sassy nacho cheese sauce! (I have a minor obsession with nacho cheese; see below.) What more, I’ve made many of Susan’s recipes over the years, and I’ve enjoyed every single one. She’s a magician when it comes to making low-fat vegan recipes that even omnivores love! (Low fat, oil free, McDougall)
Easy Guacamole with Chile-Lime Jicama Chips
You’ll love this quick-and-easy guacamole by yours truly, and chile-lime jicama chips are a fun swap for corn chips. Not sure you’d recognize a jicama if it jumped out and grabbed you? Check out this handy jicama how-to guide (including some jicama fun facts for entertaining your friends during halftime). (Oil-free, Fuhrman/Eat to Live)
Vegan 7-Layer Taco Dip
This 7-Layer Taco Dip from Angela at Eat Spin Run Repeat looks off-the-charts delicious. I especially love that she uses coconut milk in the black bean layer for a bit of a Caribbean twistâyum! (Oil-free)
Vegan Broccoli Balls
Even broccoli-haters will love these tasty morsels from Richa at Vegan Richa! Made with almond meal and bread crumbs (use gluten-free if needed), they bake up crisp and are just begging to be dipped in tomato chutney or a spicy marinara sauce. Or kick up pizza sauce with a little Tabasco or sriracha for a quick dip. (Low oil)
Cashew Nacho Cheese
Like I said, I’m mildly obsessed with nacho cheese. In fact, I used to love the fake, frightening orange stuff that comes out of a pump at 7-11âI’m that classy! Luckily, now I can enjoy vegan versions of nacho cheese that are tasty and healthy, like this quick-and-easy cashew nacho cheese from Krista at Destination Delish. With only 7 real-food ingredients, it couldn’t be easier. Serve with baked chips for a deliciously nutritious treat! (Oil free)
Spicy Kale Artichoke Dip
If you like spinach artichoke dip, this kale version by Sam at Pancake Warriors is for youâespecially if you’re also a heat seeker. (Be forewarned: it contains habanero pepper sauce. Yowza!) Now, I’m a wimp when it comes to spice, but if you like it hotâor you’ve got friends who like to outdo each other when it comes to heatâmake this dip as-is. Protein-packed and creamy thanks to a combination of cashews and white beans, it’s a winner with baked chips or roasted sliced plantains. (Oil free)
Healthy No Bake Chunky Monkey Bites
Holy moly, these chunky monkey bites by Arman at Big Man’s World look ah-maz-ing. Made with whole-grain oat flour, banana, and nutrient-packed cocoa powder, they’re just the right combination of decadent and healthy. Perfect for omnivores, vegans, and of course, kids of all ages, did I mention they’re also a snap to make? No matter who takes home the Super Bowl trophy, you win! (Oil free, low added sugar)
There you have itâ7 healthy Super Bowl appetizers and snacks that everyone will love!

Yum! These snacks look great! I haven’t watched any football this season either, but I will be making one of these delicious treats for the super bowl party!
Lee says
Thanks Heather! Don’t they look great? I’m hoping to actually make all of these soon–yum!
Amy says
Um can I come watch the super bowl with you? I promise to make at least one of these things.
Lee says
Totes! (Seriously!) I need a break from applications, woo! And while you don’t HAVE to make one of these, I wouldn’t argue with it…NOM.
Sam @ PancakeWarriors.com says
These dips look fantastic!! I’m not quite sure where to start and hope my snack table is big enough this coming super bowl, Go Panthers!
Lee says
Thanks Sam! I didn’t actually get to make all of these for the Super Bowl, but I’m still going to try to fix them all in the not-too-distant future. (As if I need an excuse to make delish snacks!)

I have the admit that I don’t watch the Superbowl or even the commercials. I am a sports-free girl all the way. As a matter of fact, I’m lamenting the fact that the superbowl is being held a mere minutes from my house đ
BUT these super awesome snacks are a good consolation prize ;p Thanks for sharing these at HVF. It’ll help people gear up for a fun day of not so indulgent snacking.
Lee says
Hi Kimmy, glad to know I’m not the only one who’s not really into the whole Super Bowl thing. (Although I’m totally into the snacks!) Wish you lived near DC; we could totally have a not-Super-Bowl healthy vegan snack party. Actually, if you’re ever in the DC area, let me know and we’ll totally do that. No Super Bowl needed!
